1. Information We Collect
Your plans and their contents stay on your device. FieldScale does not collect or transmit your personal information, PDF files, measurements, calibration data, or annotations to our servers by default — these are stored locally on your device only.
One exception applies to every user: when you add your first plan, FieldScale creates an anonymous app identifier and records a one-time sign-up number on our servers (Google Firebase) for the Founder early-adopter program and to protect against automated abuse. This identifier is not linked to your name, email, or any personal information — unless you separately choose to sign in with Google for Cloud Sync (section 5) — and it never includes anything about your plans or measurements.
Two further optional features transmit data only if you choose to use them: (a) Cloud Sync & Sharing (see section 5), which uploads a plan and its PDF to the cloud when you back up or share it; and (b) anonymous usage analytics (see section 6), which you can turn off in Settings.
2. Camera Access
Photo Mode requires camera access to photograph drawings. Photos are processed entirely on-device and are never uploaded or shared with any third party.
3. AI Features
The Auto Cal AI feature sends a small cropped image of a scale notation to Anthropic's API for scale detection, routed through a secure Cloudflare proxy. No personal information is included in this request. The image is transmitted over HTTPS and is not retained by Anthropic or the proxy beyond processing the individual request. This feature is optional and only triggered by an explicit user action.
4. Google Drive Integration
FieldScale offers an optional Google Drive integration that allows you to import plan files directly from your Google Drive. FieldScale requests the drive.file scope, which limits access exclusively to files you explicitly select. Selected files are downloaded to your device only and are not uploaded to FieldScale servers or shared with any third party. You can revoke access at any time via your Google Account settings at myaccount.google.com/permissions.
5. Cloud Sync & Sharing (optional)
Cloud Sync & Sharing is an optional feature that is OFF by default. If you enable it (Settings → Cloud Sync & Sharing) and sign in with Google, then choose to back up or share a specific plan, that plan's data — its PDF, measurements, annotations, and calibration — is uploaded to and stored on Google Firebase (Cloud Firestore and Cloud Storage) under your account. We also store your account email and display name to manage sharing.
Plans you do not back up or share never leave your device. You can turn cloud off at any time, which stops syncing and keeps your local copies. Uploaded data is transmitted over HTTPS and access is restricted to you and the people you share a plan with.
6. Analytics & Usage Data
FieldScale uses Firebase Crashlytics to collect anonymous crash reports (device model, OS version, and an error stack trace) so we can find and fix bugs.
FieldScale also collects a small amount of anonymous usage data (for example, which features are used and general performance) through Google Analytics for Firebase. This contains no personally identifiable information and nothing about your plans or measurements. It helps us — a solo developer — understand how the app is used and what to improve. This is on by default, but you can opt out anytime in Settings → Usage analytics. FieldScale does not use any advertising or cross-app tracking.
7. Third-Party Services
FieldScale uses the following third-party services: Google Firebase (Authentication, Cloud Firestore, Cloud Storage, Crashlytics, and Analytics) for the optional cloud, crash reporting, and anonymous analytics features; Anthropic Claude API for the optional Auto Cal AI feature; Google Drive API for the optional Drive file import feature; and Cloudflare as a secure proxy for AI API requests. No advertising networks or data brokers are used.
8. Data Security
Plan data remains on your device unless you enable cloud and back up or share a plan. External transmissions are: the anonymous app identifier and one-time Founder sign-up number recorded when you first add a plan (over HTTPS), uploads/downloads of plans you sync or share (over HTTPS, restricted to you and your collaborators), optional AI feature requests routed through a secure proxy, anonymous crash and usage reports, and file downloads from Google Drive when you explicitly use that feature.
9. Data Retention & Deletion
Your local data (plans, measurements, annotations, and settings) stays on your device and is removed when you delete a plan within the app or uninstall FieldScale. Cloud data exists only if you enabled Cloud Sync & Sharing and chose to back up or share a plan. You can remove an individual plan from the cloud in the app at any time, and turning cloud off keeps your local copies.
To request deletion of your account and all associated cloud data — the plans, PDFs, measurements, and the account email and display name stored on Google Firebase — email FieldScale26@gmail.com from the email address associated with your account. We will delete this data within 30 days. Crash and analytics data is anonymous and not tied to your identity.
10. Children's Privacy
FieldScale is intended for professional use and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect any information from children.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Updates will be reflected in the app with a revised date. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
